Contemporary works in various media, including painting, printmaking, ceramics, graphic design, sculpture, digital art, photography, metalsmithing, and drawing, will be shown from both new and returning faculty. This exhibition allows Parkland students to see the work of faculty in the art and design program and showcases faculty work to the community. At the artists' reception, mingle with the art faculty and learn what has inspired their work. Peg Shaw will speak about her artwork during the reception at 6:15Ìýpm. "What started as a small idea to honor what it means to care for unknown children became an obsession to move my spirit toward theirs." She explains about her ongoing project, Someone's Child." Hour after hour, these small pieces were wishes. Night after night they became hope. And in the end a sincere prayer: wings for someone's child."
On September 17 from 12 to 2 pm, the gallery will be participating in the Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day. Museum Day is an annual event hosted by Smithsonian magazine in which participating museums across the country open their doors. Giertz Gallery will be participating in this program to celebrate the arts and sciences and promote equal access to education for all citizens.Ìý
