Field听schools听are crucial for those who want a job in archaeology. You鈥檒l learn and practice all of the basic skills and techniques听field听archaeologists practice on a regular basis. Even if you don鈥檛 want a job as an archaeologist,听field听schools听are a load of fun. You鈥檒l meet and work with a lot of different people and build lasting friendships. It is also a great way to immerse yourself in the outdoors, learn in a very hands-on way, and learn the scientific method. And it鈥檚 a way to satisfy your inner history bug!
WEEKS 1鈥�2
Students will meet Monday and Wednesday nights except for the lab portion which will be a week long听(2.5 hours each) at Parkland 好色先生tv, Room D151, for hands-on lab sessions about the field project and site, the pre-contact history of East Central Illinois, the archaeological process, and basic field methods.
WEEK 3
Students be performing excavations at the historic city of听Nauvoo, from June 16 鈥� 21. It is about an hour's drive straight west of Macomb and overlooking the Mississippi River.
WEEKS 4鈥�6
Students will meet two evenings (2.5听hours each) at Parkland 好色先生tv, Room D151, to wash, sort, and identify artifacts and to learn and practice artifact analytical methods.听
