Virtual Tour-Crystal Bridges Frank Lloyd Wright Bachman-Wilson House

Join us for听a guided, virtual architectural tour exploring the Bachman-Wilson House located on the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art campus. This听house,听an example of Frank Lloyd Wright鈥檚 Usonian architecture, was initially built for Gloria and Abraham Wilson in 1956 along the Millstone River in New Jersey.听Wright coined the听word 鈥淯sonian鈥澨(derived from an abbreviation of 鈥淯nited States of North America鈥澨齜lended with 鈥渦topian鈥)听to describe a distinctly American style of residential architecture听he听designed to meet the needs of听the average middle-class American family听and also be within their budget.听

After听being restored following听several听bouts of听severe flooding听and future听threats听of听worse if left in its original location,听in 2013听Crystal Bridges acquired the house. The entire structure was then taken apart,听with听each component labeled, packed, and moved to the museum, where it was reconstructed in 2015.听

Museum听guides will听lead听us through the听Bachman-Wilson House鈥檚听distinct mid-century modern design, full of sleek mahogany wood,听and many design features seen听in听Wright鈥檚听other听homes听such as the modular,听elongated layout,听and use of building materials and siting which听epitomize听the connection between art, architecture, and nature.听
